***TEIXEIRA GOES TO YANKEES For $180 Million!!!***

What the...? It's true. From ESPN dot com and ESPN radio and ESPN HD...

"Free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira has reached agreement with the New York Yankees on an eight-year contract worth more than $170 million, two sources involved in the negotiations tells ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The Yankees swooped in on Teixeira on Tuesday when it was believed the Boston Red Sox or the Washington Nationals were the likeliest to be his future employer. The Red Sox's offer was believed to be in the range of $170 million, and the Nationals reached out with an offer perhaps greater than that of Boston.
Teixeira finished last season with the Los Angeles Angels following a trade from Atlanta. The Angels withdrew from negotiations on Sunday night, in a very public manner, and say they were moving on to other players.
Teixeira had made it clear that he wanted to make a decision on where to play next season and beyond by Christmas."

Gee...my goodness. Did Theo and John Henry blow it? The Yankees have now spent nearly $440 million for THREE PLAYERS!!!!Later...

Oh my God... The yanks really stuck it in our face.

But for some reason, I really don't think the 2009 yanks will be threatening at all.

One thing for sure, Teixeira gonna be boo-ed by the fenway faithful. And I mean Johnny Damon level boo-ing.

My comment from 12/12 - "I wish I was as confident as you about Tex. I figure something is gonna screw it up (Yankees)."

I guess we don't control the roller coaster, we're just along for the ride.

WE CONTROL THE RIDE, BFW. The Yankees pay for it.

Dabi, I'm not at all worried...it's great to hear from you both.

Peter, just saw this at boston.com, and it's all I needed to see. Eff him.

Wrote the Daily News's Bill Madden: "It was then learned that Teixeira had favored the Yankees all along and according to sources he conveyed that to them this week." Madden also reported that Teixeira received a $5 million signing bonus, bringing the contract's full value to $185 million.

You're right, Gerry...may he rot in the Bronx, slowly roasting. Happy holidays to you and your family.
