Of Lugo And Drew, A HEALTHY Jon Lester And A Returning Manny

Oh what a day yesterday, and not just down in Florida. The news from Seattle could not have been sweeter. Jon Lester is cancer-free and will report to Spring Training on time and ready to go. He has one more course of chemotherapy on December 21st. To say that I am happy hearing this news would be an understatement. God willing he'll be able to go on with his life just like any other healthy 20 something year old. Fearless and having fun. Please.
The Sox had their pens out and ready to go yesterday. They signed JD Drew to a 5 year $70 million dollar contract to patrol right with his great defense and will probably bat 5th in the potent middle (with Manny!) of the order. And Julio Lugo is our shortstop. He was signed to a 4 year $36 million dollar deal and will provide defense and pop to the bottom of the line-up.
Are we finished? Not yet! The Sox have declared that the Mannny trade talks are virtually dead, and he will be, barring a miracle, in leftfield, a place he can handle, and bat cleanup while protecting Papi's back in the line-up. An outfield, left to right, of Manny, Coco and Drew sounds good to me, with an occasional (that's all!) appearance by WMP. And all that in one day. Mazel Tov!
I'd like to say that yes, the new players will add so much to the 2007 Boston Red Sox. But it was the news of Jon Lester's good health that enabled me to say that I am truly happy. To the Big Guy upstairs, THANK YOU.

Hooray & God bless Jon Lester! I hope his remission lasts for many years ... many years of a happy & healthy life.

The signings are interesting, but I hope Drew's demeanor (emotional detachment) doesn't make him a disaster waiting to happen. I also hope there are still some bucks left for our pen. We're really looking at Gagne? Is he another rehab gamble like Foulke?
