Daisuke Matsuzaka Is Already A Sox Spokesman.....

Read this, from the Globe, on this day before New Year's eve day......

"Newly minted Red Sox hurler Daisuke Matsuzaka donned a Red Sox uniform to make his latest pitch in Japan.
The Japanese baseball star, also known as "Dice-K," who the Sox paid $103 million to acquire has recorded a Japanese commercial hawking Asahi Super Dry beer, fully dressed in Red Sox regalia, showing that his star power in the Far East has already lent marketing clout to his new team. The endorsement happened without the involvement of the Red Sox, under rules that give Major League Baseball control over the team's trademarks outside New England .
Those rules aside, Sox executives believe there is a big market in Japan and locally for endorsements involving the team and Matsuzaka, and that their new pitcher will boost the team's popularity in Japan past that of a certain pinstripe-wearing rival with a Japanese player of its own."

Peter, smiling widely, here.....and how nice is that! I can't wait for him to make his first purposeful regular season walk to the mound..the mound at KC, but he will be wearing our uniform, and he'll be shutting down the opposition, whatever team happens to be unfortunate enough to be on the looking end of his many different pitches! And I'm sure we're ALL looking forward to hear those two words...."PLAY BALL!"

Yeah but the Red Sox really had nothing to do with the deal. It was negotiated by MLB. The Red Sox only control their advertising in New England. I also read Dunkin Donuts wants to do something similar to what they did with Schilling learning to speak boston.

Ian, I deleted my previous comment because it was too negative towards you....but I'd like to respond. Just the fact that Daisuke is out there, AND out there with our Red Sox uniform, is what it's all about. And that's it! I can't wait to see him toe the rubber in KC.

Yeah, I can hardly wait until the debut of Dice-K. I've got my scouts working on KC tickets. Don't you imagine the Schill will be the man in the opener? I may have to run up there in the middle of the week to see Dice-K.

Oh I know that. I didn't mean to sound negative about it, it's just that would have been one way for the Sox to recoup some of the money. Personally, I think it's great because it gets the Sox name out there in Japan.
